How To Be Creative: Master the Basics First

Mexican food is a great genre that pulls of bunch of people together. It's great for virtually any gathering, it's full of flavour, it's full of creativity.

It's also full of learning opportunities from no other than Rick BaylessEverybody likes food. So what better than food to teach a marketing lesson?

Rolling with this food analogy, think of your favourite family recipe. It's tried and true and you know it inside out. Since you know it so well, every once and awhile you go ahead and change of the spices, switch in some seasonal vegetables or try a new base stock.

Now flip that scenario: what would happen if you didn't know the original recipe so well? Adapting it and morphing it into something new would be pretty difficult.

The same can be said for marketing techniques and methods. It's hard to approach things from a new angle or know how to change it up to flow with the changing times if you don't have a firm grasp on the basics.

So listen to Fast Company and Rick Bayless. They've got some delicious points to serve up.
