Do you know what it means to be a social butterfly?

It's not that person you envied in high school who could talk about anything with anyone.

It's the person who can hang with the hashtags, be in the know on which social media giants owns which app and navigate the all the tiny (or huge) feature updates that you had no idea about.

Oh and this all happens well before her first coffee, we might add. 

Logan Kazman, The Tite Group's own social media specialist, is just that person around here. Every Tuesday, she'll be sharing "Learning with Logan" where you'll get the inside scoop on the top social media news of the week. 

All in point form too. Phew!


Twitter’s New Mobile Website 

  • This new mobile experience, Twitter Lite, will be available around the globe. The product is aimed at emerging markets such as India, countries in Africa, and Latin America where there is known to be slower network connections with cheap Android phones.

  • Twitter isn’t the only platform that offers “Lite” versions of their apps. Facebook has versions for both its main app and it’s Facebook messenger on Android in several markets. Skype too – the video app created a slimmed-down version of the video calling service called, Skype Lite, made exclusively for India.

  • Hit or Miss: Catering to these types of markets is very important and something that should continue to be implemented. After all, everyone has heard the adage of "know your audience." The more these platforms can cater to varying audiences, the more people will be interested in turning to them simply because they'll be able to better access them. This is a simple, but effective concept that can really make a difference. 

Apple’s Clips  

  • Apple launched, Clips, a social video editing app just last week. The program lets users cut together short videos and photos, add filters, emojis and music and send them out into the world.

  • Users can also create animated captions called “Live Titles” using only their voice. The captions can be applied with effects like comic book filters, speech bubbles, and different shapes.

  • Hit or Miss: Honestly, Apple’s new app is a little iffy. Clips is a standalone program, meaning it’s not tied down to a social network. This can be both a good and bad thing. Some may argue, it’s beneficial as it's a separate app so users can decide how to share the videos on their own. While on the other hand, others may say “what’s the point?” Apple isn't the first brand to release an app like this. Just take a scroll through your App Store. 

  • The point of the program is respectable: making editing quick and easy to truly put content creation in the hands of just about anyone. But what I don’t quite understand is why Apple would care to get into this space (especially when a handful of other social media platforms already offer these functionalities).

  • For me, time will have to tell whether or not this program is a hit or a miss.

Chipotle’s Giant Burrito Spots 

 

  • Mexican fast-food restaurant, Chipotle, just deployed their first broadcast TV campaign.

  • The spots feature John Mulaney, Jillian Bell, and Sam Richardson as they get into lifetime “realness” chats inside a giant burrito.  

  • Hit or Miss: I for one am a sucker for a good Chipotle burrito bowl. But these spot just didn’t do it for me. The brand tried to use playful humor to loosely tie “real” life to “real” ingredients, and in my opinion, it failed. Rather than focusing on the “realest” thing – Chipotle’s ingredients, it focused on poor comedy with no added-value. What did you think of these ads? Share your opinions with us on Twitter.
