Do you know what it means to be a social butterfly?

It's not that person you envied in high school who could talk about anything with anyone.

It's the person who can hang with the hashtags, be in the know on which social media giants owns which app and navigate the all the tiny (or huge) feature updates that you had no idea about.

Oh and this all happens well before her first coffee, we might add. 

Logan Kazman, The Tite Group's own social media specialist, is just that person around here. Every Tuesday, she'll be sharing "Learning with Logan" where you'll get the inside scoop on the top social media news of the week.

Instagram Updates 

  • Yesterday the company announced live video for Instagram stories and disappearing content for direct messages. Can someone say Snapchat? The new functions are said to roll out in the coming weeks.

  • Hit or Miss: An initial look at what could be a copycat of Snapchat made the update feel like it was just too familiar. However, further use proves it works and works well. The roughly 400 million users are already getting immersed in the Instagram experience by scrolling through and seeing everyone's posts. What the company is doing now is simply letting users take their picture-perfect moments to a whole new interactive level. This works well for the explore page that people frequent to stalk, browse, and quite literally, explore other peoples’ content. Ultimately, only time will tell how well this takes...

Facebook Messenger

  • Facebook rolled out its messenger platform 1.3.

  • “For the first time ever, businesses can drive targeted audiences to Messenger and keep them engaged with new tools.”

  • Hit or Miss: This kind of update could go one of two ways. On the one hand, it seems like a great opportunity for brands to connect with customers for things like flight status updates, product order updates as well as organizing customer data. But on the other, there could be a problem with things being impersonal. These kind of chat bots don't (and can't) fully get to the heart of their customers needs and wants because they often only have so many responses. In many cases, bots tend can lead to a poor customer experience if the customer can't properly convey their thoughts and get appropriate responses. 

Johnnie Walker – Drunk Driving 360 Video

  • As we all know, the holiday season is a time meant for family and friends and we often spend it over food and drinks. It’s also a time where drunk driving is a major concern. That’s why VaynerMedia decided to come up with a 360 virtual reality experience for Johnnie Walker. Watch as three different stories unfold all to tell the same story – the power of drunk driving.

  • For years, the brand has ensured that at least one of its marketing campaigns speaks to social responsibility when it comes to drinking and driving. “The latest campaign takes thing to the next level by actually having the consumer experience what it's like when a crash happens so suddenly and what the ramifications can be.” 

  • Hit or Miss: This powerful spot is definitely a hit. The piece isn't just timely, but it also takes a very important message and conceptualizes it in a new format: VR. While the everyday driver can relate to the characters, they've also never been put in what feels like a first-hand experience of an incident that drivers everywhere hope will never come true. Now THIS is how you make shock-value valuable.
