Think MRI and EEG scanners, electrodes taped to people and eyes glued to screens. Sounds all very creepy, but really it's all very smart.
This is neuromarketing. It's not new, but the money going into it this year is new. A reinforced interest in this method shows a trail of bills that leads to all kinds of brands and businesses looking to understand the minds of their customers more.
Now of course, there are ethical concerns with the practice (subliminal messaging, Big Brother, etc. etc.).
But playing devil's advocate, neuromarketing, if used responsibly, could actually provide a win-win solution for businesses and customers.
Businesses could reduce the amount of money, time, effort wasted on crappy ad campaigns and customers won't be said crap anymore.
How concrete are the results and will everyone be able to get some of the pie? Not sure yet, and maybe.
